hackedepicciotto are married couple Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto. Both are legends of their own making: Danielle the lead singer of the band Space Cowboys and the co-initiator of the Love Parade, and Alexander a founding member of the seminal German group Einstürzende Neubauten, known for working with the likes of Crime & the City Solution (1987 – 1991) and Phew.

PERSEVERANTIA, the first studio album from the experimental duo hackedepicciotto, unavailable since original pressing in 2016, is reissued alongside Menetekel and THE CURRENT via Mute.

PERSEVERANTIA, meaning endurance and persistence, was recorded in the California Mojave desert and originally released in 2016. The album unveils the essence of the duo’s truisms, with mesmerising soundscapes created by Alexander’s throat-singing, the hypnotic hurdy-gurdy, ether-plucking harp, eerie violin and gritty bass and guitar. This is paired with spoken words from Danielle carefully scattered throughout the album, with the main lyrical focus being “Perseverantia ad finem optatum”, which is chanted on the title track and emphasises that “to successfully achieve a positive goal we need one thing above all, endurance.”

Menetekel - Double Black Vinyl

Menetekel, the third studio album from the experimental duo hackedepicciotto, is reissued alongside PERSEVERANTIA and THE CURRENT via Mute.

Originally released in 2017, Menetekel is a darker album than its predecessor PERSEVERANTIA. The album sees the artistic partnership convert the collective worldwide despair felt at the time into a “monumental symphony of sound, twirling and twisting it into a biblical frenzy”. Side D of the double LP is a sound installation that hackdepicciotto were invited to compose in an archaic church in Austria. Here the two artists sing "the echo depends on where you stand", channelling the philosophical thoughts inspired by architectural influence of the ancient walls, shedding light onto the shadowy depths of modern times.

THE CURRENT, the fourth studio album from the experimental duo hackedepicciotto, is reissued alongside PERSEVERANTIA and Menetekel via Mute.

Originally released in 2020, THE CURRENT sees hackedepicciotto gaining speed and energy from their previous albums, with the band expressing “we had the urge to include more percussive elements and electronic sounds to create a powerful rhythmic feel. A wilder and more danceable element. Something to get all of us on our feet, and moving. Away from depression and hopelessness.” Beautiful violin harmonies and choirs can be heard throughout the entire record, creating the perfect soundtrack for what the band describe as “an apocalyptic feature-length film, hopefully with a happy ending.”
