The John Peel Sessions by Slovenian collective Laibach are now available on vinyl for the first time. The sessions have been remastered and pressed on a limited run of stone-coloured vinyl.
The longest-serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs (1967-2004), John Peel was a renowned tastemaker and his weekly shows were an incredible resource to hear the best music, across all genres. As an early fan of Laibach, he played them on the show often, and booked them for two of his esteemed Peel Sessions: the first in June 1986 and the second in April 1987.
This limited-edition vinyl features both sessions recorded at the renowned BBC Maida Vale Studios, giving us a brilliant insight into a band fully hitting their stride:
- Side A: The June 24, 1986 session includes unique renditions of ‘Krvava Gruda - Plodna Zemlja’ (tr. Bloody Ground – Fertile Land) from Nova Akropola and ‘Krst’ (tr. Baptism) from the album of the same name.
- Side B: The April 24, 1987 session features distinctive interpretations of tracks from Opus Dei (‘Transnational’ and ‘Leben-Tod’ (tr. Life – Death)), alongside ‘Krvoprelitje (Ti, Ki Izzivaš)’ (tr. Bloodshed (You Who Challenge)).
Laibach have chosen to honour the revered DJ on the sleeve, which features the band standing below a Peel monument (adapted from the original shot of the band at Karl Marx's tomb in Highgate Cemetery, London).
